What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

The run from Vancouver

Kelowna is about 390 km from the Lower Mainland, roughly 4.5 hours. The route runs Highway 1 to Hope, the Coquihalla to Merritt, then Highway 97C — the Okanagan Connector — east to Peachland and Highway 97 north. Pennask Summit on the Connector tops out at 1,728 m, which makes it the second-highest mountain highway crossing in BC after Kootenay Pass. It is also the part of this run that closes. Snowfall and crashes shut the Connector for hours at a time, and the westbound climb out of the valley is long and steep. Inside the city, the William R. Bennett Bridge carries all five lanes of Highway 97 across Okanagan Lake on nine floating pontoons, taking about 50,000 vehicles a day against a design capacity of 80,000. The ministry’s own study expects it to be at capacity by 2040.

What moves here

Kelowna has had no rail freight service since 2013, when the Kelowna Pacific Railway went into receivership. CN restored the northern portion through Vernon, but the Vernon-to-Kelowna section never reopened — local governments bought the corridor for $22 million and turned it into a trail. Everything urgent into this city arrives by road. The largest private employer is KF Aerospace, which runs over 1,100,000 maintenance hours a year across 15 maintenance lines with about 1,000 staff, and added two Boeing 737-800 freighter conversion lines here in 2023. Roughly 18% of BC’s aerospace companies sit in the Central Okanagan. Kelowna General Hospital is the only facility outside the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island performing cardiac surgery, which puts a genuine clock on medical and equipment freight. The city counted 144,576 people in 2021 and about 167,654 by the 2025 estimate.

Scales and seasonal limits

There are only two commercial vehicle inspection stations in the entire Okanagan: Vernon, at 6775 Highway 97, and Kaleden, south of Penticton. Both run variable hours. BC posts spring load restrictions as a percentage of legal axle loading — 100%, 70% or 50% — with a tandem group dropping from 17,000 kg to 11,900 kg at 70% and 8,500 kg at 50%. They apply only above 5,500 kg licensed GVW. The South Okanagan service area, which covers Kelowna, lifted its 2026 restrictions on 7 May. Winter tires or chains are required on Highway 5 and Highway 97C from 1 October to 30 April.

Local fun fact

The original Okanagan Lake Bridge, opened in 1958, was the first floating bridge built in Canada — 650 m of pontoons with a lift span at the east end so sailboats could pass. Princess Margaret opened it. It closed in 2008, six days after the Bennett Bridge took over, and Kelowna has had a floating highway crossing continuously ever since.
