What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

The run from Vancouver

Calgary sits about 970 km east of the Lower Mainland. Standard routing is Highway 1 to Hope, the Coquihalla to Kamloops, then Highway 1 east through Rogers Pass and Kicking Horse Pass. Running time is 10.5 to 11 hours one way before stops. Three summits set the schedule: Coquihalla Summit at 1,244 m, Rogers Pass at 1,330 m, and Kicking Horse Pass at 1,627 m. Rogers Pass averages 9.3 m of snow a year. It is the only highway in Canada where the military runs permanent avalanche control, firing 105 mm howitzers at the slide paths above the road. Those closures are usually short, but they are not scheduled around anyone’s delivery window, and there is no practical detour.

What moves here

Calgary is the head-office centre for Canadian oil and gas. Much of what runs this lane is small, urgent and expensive — instrumentation, control components, sealed assemblies moving out to a field site or back to a shop. Transport and logistics is a large sector in its own right here, worth $7.6 billion in regional GDP in 2023 and employing 11.2% of the workforce. YYC handles 75% of Alberta’s air cargo, so the airport is a regular pickup point when a part flies in and still needs a road leg to reach the job. CPKC’s Alyth Yard and CN’s Logistics Park in Rocky View County anchor the rail side. The city counted 1,306,784 people in the 2021 census, with provincial estimates putting it near 1.6 million in 2025.

Scales and seasonal limits

The Balzac station on the QEII north of the city covers northbound traffic; Strathmore VIS covers Highway 1 east. Alberta stations run variable hours. Alberta posts spring road bans as a percentage of legal axle weight, not gross weight — 90%, 75% or 50%, with 100% meaning no ban in force. Bans trigger on a measured thaw depth of 25 cm, tracked at 70 frost probe stations across the province, so the dates shift every year. Orders are published on the provincial road ban list and through the hotline at 1-855-ROADBAN. Winter weight increases work the same way in reverse, starting once frost reaches 75 cm.

Local fun fact

CPR opened its Ogden Shops in southeast Calgary in March 1912 to build and repair rolling stock. In 1941 the shops switched to armaments. By the end of the war Ogden had turned out more than a thousand naval guns and gun mounts for Allied warships — built roughly 1,000 km from the nearest ocean.
