What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

The run from Vancouver

Hope is 154 km east of Vancouver, about 90 minutes to two hours on Highway 1. It is the closest hub on our list and the junction where Highway 1, Highway 3, Highway 5 and Highway 7 all meet, which makes it the last practical staging point before the Interior. North of town, the Coquihalla climbs to Coquihalla Summit at 1,244 m about 50 km up, with grades reaching 8%. The named points on that climb are the Box Canyon chain-up area, which was expanded to hold 70 vehicles, the Zopkios southbound brake check, and the 285 m Great Bear Snowshed, completed in 1986. There is no fuel across the 115 km between Hope and Merritt. Highway 3 southeast of town runs across the 1965 Hope Slide, where 47 million cubic metres of rock buried 3.5 km of highway and the road was rebuilt 55 m above the original grade.

What moves here

Hope runs on the highway. Transportation and warehousing accounts for 8% of the local labour force, with accommodation and food services at 17.1%, health care at 12.8% and retail at 10.3% — the profile of a service town for people passing through, not a resource town. The largest industrial shipper is the Primo Brands bottling plant, which draws over 300 million litres a year for private-label beverages sold through major grocery and fuel retailers. BC Hydro’s Interior to Lower Mainland 500 kV line runs through the area — 247 km of transmission on 642 structures — and needs ongoing maintenance access. Highway maintenance contractors are the other constant. The district counted 6,686 people in 2021, with the surrounding electoral area adding about 1,500 more. Downtown, the chainsaw carvings are the easiest place to direct a driver to.

Scales and seasonal limits

Three of BC’s 31 commercial vehicle inspection stations are at Hope — Hunter Creek westbound, Laidlaw eastbound and Haig — all on variable hours. Winter tires or chains are required on Highway 1, 3 and 5 east of here from 1 October to 30 April, with M+S or 3PMSF markings and at least 3.5 mm of tread. The fine for running without them on a designated route is $121. BC posts spring load restrictions as a percentage of legal axle loading — 100%, 70% or 50% — but the Fraser Valley district is rarely restricted; in late July 2026, 7 of BC’s 28 districts had active restrictions and this was not one of them. Loads continuing into the Interior are a different matter.

Local fun fact

In 1914 the Kettle Valley Railway drove five tunnels through the Coquihalla gorge just east of Hope. Chief engineer Andrew McCulloch found a dead-straight alignment through the canyon so all five could be bored at the same time, and surveyed the route himself while suspended in a wicker basket over the gorge. The tunnels are still there. A century later the Coquihalla answered the same problem a different way — Phase 1 opened on 16 May 1986, built in two years with 9 million tonnes of gravel and 38 bridges and overpasses.
