What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

The run from Vancouver

Golden is about 711 km out, roughly nine hours, running the Coquihalla to Kamloops and then Highway 1 east through Salmon Arm and Revelstoke. Rogers Pass is the section that governs the schedule. It summits at 1,330 m, takes roughly 10 metres of snow a year at treeline, and closes for about 100 hours over a winter for avalanche control — most closures running four to eight hours, with a closure over 24 hours happening about once every four years. The Kicking Horse Canyon east of Rogers Pass is no longer the bottleneck it was: the final phase opened to four lanes on 30 November 2023 after more than $600 million of work, realigning 13 curves through the canyon’s most difficult 4.8 km. The westbound approach into town still includes the 10 Mile Hill descent, which carries a commercial brake check and its own eastbound chain-up requirement. Golden runs on Mountain time, an hour ahead of Vancouver.

What moves here

The dominant employer is the Pacific Woodtech mill, which produces laminated veneer lumber and employs about 350 people directly plus roughly 200 through local contractors and suppliers — in a town of four thousand. Note the name: Louisiana-Pacific sold this business to Pacific Woodtech in August 2022 for around $210 million, and LP no longer operates here. Golden is also a long-standing railway town on CPKC’s mountain main line, and it sits at the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 95, which makes it the last full-service stop for about 150 km westbound over Rogers Pass and the gateway east into the Rockies. Tourism infrastructure at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort adds construction and equipment demand on top. The town counted 3,986 people in 2021 and about 4,277 by the 2022 estimate.

Scales and seasonal limits

The Golden inspection station on Highway 1 has a weigh-in-motion bypass. Coming out from the coast you also pass the Hope cluster and Kamloops eastbound. BC posts spring load restrictions as a percentage of legal axle loading — 100%, 70% or 50% — applied only above 5,500 kg licensed GVW. Winter tires or chains are required on Highway 1 from 1 October to 30 April, and chain-up requirements on 10 Mile Hill are posted live on DriveBC.

Local fun fact

Eighty kilometres west of town, under Rogers Pass, runs the longest railway tunnel in North America. The Mount Macdonald Tunnel is 14.66 km long, opened in November 1988 at a final cost of $422 million, and took the title from a 1929 tunnel in Washington State. Its point was pure grade engineering: a 0.7% westward gradient that eliminated the need for pusher locomotives entirely, letting trains climb unassisted at 32 km/h. Fans and computer-controlled portal doors, operated from Revelstoke, purge the diesel exhaust.
