What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

Description

What’s included: $2,485 flat truck rate covers fuel and deadhead, size/weight limits (800 lbs, 5’7″ bed, 60″ height max — larger loads require the trailer at $3,105), layover ($375) and detention ($140/hr — 30 min free at pickup, 30 min free at drop-off, tracked separately) apply on top if triggered.

The run from Vancouver

Kamloops is about 350 km out, roughly four hours in good conditions — the shortest of the interior long-haul runs. The route is Highway 1 to Hope, then the Coquihalla: 115 km to Merritt and another 72 km into Kamloops, four-lane freeway the whole way. Coquihalla Summit sits at 1,244 m. There is no fuel between Hope and Merritt, which catches out more drivers than it should; contractors patrolling between Britton Creek and Coldwater once found eight vehicles out of gas in a single Sunday. The named points on the climb are the Box Canyon chain-up area, expanded to hold 70 vehicles, the Zopkios southbound brake check, and the 285 m Great Bear Snowshed. When the Coquihalla closes, the fallback is Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon at about 276 km from Hope — shorter on paper, slower in practice.

What moves here

Mining drives the urgent freight here. Highland Valley Copper, 75 km southwest near Logan Lake, is Canada’s largest copper mine, and its life extension was approved in June 2025 with construction starting that August — over $1.5 billion, about 2,900 construction jobs, a workforce rising past 1,500, and mine life pushed from 2028 into the mid-2040s. New Afton, immediately west of the city, reached commercial production on its C-Zone block cave in late 2024. The pulp mill is now Kruger, not Domtar — Kruger acquired it in 2022 and has since put $32 million into next-generation specialty pulp technology. Kamloops is also a genuine CN and CPKC junction with yards for both, and CPKC is relocating about 125 railroaders here from Revelstoke in 2026. The city counted 97,902 people in 2021, with the metro area at about 127,198 in 2025.

Scales and seasonal limits

Both Kamloops inspection stations sit on the Trans-Canada west of the city — eastbound at 2575 and westbound at 2650 — not on the Coquihalla. Coming out from the coast you pass the Hope cluster of Hunter Creek, Laidlaw and Haig. BC posts spring load restrictions as a percentage of legal axle loading — 100%, 70% or 50% — applied only above 5,500 kg licensed GVW. In 2026 the Nicola service area lifted restrictions on 1 May and the Thompson area on 22 May. Winter tires or chains are required on Highway 5 and Highway 1 here from 1 October to 30 April.

Local fun fact

CN and CPKC do not actually compete on the run between Kamloops and the coast — they share track by direction. Under a co-production agreement in place since 1999, westbound trains from both railways use the CN line down the canyons for its flatter grade, while eastbound CN trains run on CPKC rail from Mission to just south of Ashcroft before returning to their own. A container leaving Kamloops for Vancouver may spend most of the trip on its competitor’s railroad.
