What this price includes — and the only things that can change it

Standard load

Fuel, the empty return leg and tarping are included — no separate fuel surcharge. Covers one load up to 4 pallets / 2,300 lb, within the truck bed (800 lb, 5′7″ × 50″ × 60″) and trailer deck (1,500 lb, 140″ × 78″). Loading and unloading each get a 30-minute grace period, tracked separately — unused time at pickup doesn't carry over to delivery. Past that, detention is $140/hr, billed in 15-minute increments.

Three things add to this price
  • The load needs the trailer — more than 1 pallet, any pallet over 800 lb, cargo 60″ or taller, or wider than 50″. +25%
  • Pickup outside standard hours — weekday evenings 8–10pm +30%, overnight or weekends +45%, BC statutory holidays +60%
  • Tonneau cover add-on — optional, charged in full at booking, not prorated. +$150

All three are calculated on this page from what you enter, before you book — nothing is added at checkout.

Highway closures and route changes
  • Your price is based on the actual distance for your route. If the route or distance changes before we depart, we'll quote the difference at $3.50/km round trip and confirm it with you before proceeding.
  • On routes with no legal detour (Hwy 16, Hwy 37, Hwy 97 north of Quesnel, Hwy 99 in practice), a closure identified before dispatch means we reschedule to the next open window or refund your deposit in full. Once your load is on the road, any resulting wait is billed as detention.
  • A closure that hits after pickup is billed on the final invoice the same way detention is — $140/hr from the start of the delay, capped at our $375 flat layover rate if it breaks the driving day.

Rates effective August 16, 2026, subject to change.

Why This Price Is Simple

  • Fuel and the empty return trip are already built in — no separate fuel surcharge line.
  • Most hotshot and courier companies in BC and Alberta don’t post pricing online — you call and wait for a quote. This price is right here, before you book.
  • Published truckload fuel surcharges at FedEx Canada and Purolator ran from 69% to 96% of base freight in the week of 10–16 August 2026, and they reset weekly. This rate doesn’t move with them.

What can change this price, and by how much, is set out in full in the conditions block above.

The run from Vancouver

Terrace is about 1,440 km out, 15 to 17 hours one way. The route runs the Coquihalla to Kamloops, Highway 97 north to Prince George, then 575 km west on Highway 16. Some published distances for this trip are shorter because they route through the Fraser Canyon on Highway 1. The Coquihalla version is roughly 80 km longer and we run it anyway — divided four-lane, engineered grades, better winter maintenance, and none of the canyon’s tunnels or rockfall closures. Fuel planning matters more than elevation here. Prince George to Vanderhoof is about 97 km with nothing between, and the Skeena canyon stretch from Kitwanga into Terrace runs about 94 km with essentially no services.

What moves here

Terrace is the supply and distribution centre for all of northwest BC, sitting at the junction of Highway 16 and Highway 37. Freight bound for Kitimat, Prince Rupert, the Hazeltons, the Nass Valley or the mines up Highway 37 North almost all comes through here first. Northwest Regional Airport sits 10 km south on Highway 37, moved 414,997 passengers in 2024, and has a 7,497-foot instrument runway — which makes it both the competition for urgent parts and the handoff point when air freight still needs a road leg. Ksyen Regional Hospital opened in November 2024 with 78 beds as the regional referral and trauma centre. Mining supply for Red Chris and Brucejack stages through the corridor. The city counted 12,017 people in 2021 and about 13,252 by 2024.

Scales and seasonal limits

The Terrace inspection station sits at 3390 Highway 16 East, just outside town near the Highway 37 roundabout. Vanderhoof is the only staffed presence between here and Prince George, and both Prince George stations are listed as temporarily closed. BC posts spring load restrictions as a percentage of legal axle loading — 100%, 70% or 50%. A tandem group rated 17,000 kg drops to 11,900 kg at 70% and 8,500 kg at 50%. Restrictions apply above 5,500 kg licensed GVW and run longer in the northwest than in southern BC. Winter tires or chains are required on this corridor from 1 October.

Local fun fact

The town exists because of a land deal. George Little pre-empted 65 hectares here in 1905 and handed the Grand Trunk Pacific its right-of-way for free; in exchange the railway let him name the station. Track reached the Kitsumkalum River in late 1910. Terrace is still on CN’s Prince Rupert main line. Thirty-four years later it was the site of the largest mutiny in Canadian military history, when roughly 3,000 soldiers held the camp here for six days in November 1944 — an event censors kept out of the papers at the time.
